Introduction:
Cost Pool Groups are used to define the process used to calculate actual indirect rates for a legal entity.

Description:
The results of the calculation process may be used to post Cost Pool allocations to the general ledger, and to update actual indirect rates for Cost Structures associated with the Cost Pool Group.
For a detailed guide to creating cost pools, please see the KC - Cost Pool Group Creation Guide.

Best Practices:
Customers should work with consultants familiar with the government requirements in this area.

Further considerations:

  • Cost pools allocate the costs in the Pool (Numerator) Accounts to the Post Accounts in the Base (Denominator).
  • The contra account(s) go in the Post Account field of the Pool.
  • The Cost Pool Hierarchy in the Account Tree View (Reports > Reference > Account Tree Views) may be helpful to reference in setting up cost pools.
  • Recommended best practice: Set up the Cost Pool hierarchy so that the roll-up accounts can be used in the cost pools.

Navigate to Admin > Setup > Accounting > Cost Pool Groups.

Navigate to Admin > Setup > Accounting > Cost Pool Groups > +Cost Pool Group.

Navigate to Admin > Setup > Accounting > Cost Pool Groups > Edit Pencil Icon > Cost Pools tab.

Navigate to Admin > Setup > Accounting > Cost Pool Groups > Edit Pencil Icon > Cost Pools tab > Edit Pencil Icon.

Note: Since the initial version of Unanet Financials will have yet to support the ability to post inter-company transactions, the Cost Pools defined for an individual Cost Pool Group will be limited to a single Legal Entity.
