Question

Is there a best practice for set up of Resource Skills?

Solution

Unanet enables you to customize your list of resource skill types, skills, and skill levels. Skills may be associated with person profiles such that you can search for people with certain skills in reports or in planning/assigning grids. You can answer questions such as "Who do we have with a Masters degree in Engineering?" or "Who speaks Chinese fluently?" or "How productive are the employees who have a PMP certification?".

Attached here is a stock list of skills, skill types, and skill levels which you may upload into your system. You may customize these items either in the files prior to import, or in Unanet after importing. Also attached is a sample format for associating individual(s) with particular skills.

These files are in the format which Unanet requires for import, so if you have a different set of skills/skill types/skill levels you may use your data in these formats.

After creating the file, import using these steps:

  1. Go to Admin > Import.
  2. For TYPE OF IMPORT select Skills, Skill Level, Skill Type, or Person Skills.
  3. For FILE TO IMPORT, click Choose File to navigate to your file and select it.
  4. Click Import.

Here are some sample screenshots of how you might configure your Skills files.
